During the early 1930s E. Leitz Inc. New York marketed two slightly different color separation filter accessories for the Leica camera. The Swiss company OMAG was the manufacturer. The two products were the OMAG Tri-color Filter in mount, code word OMPER, and the OMAG Four Color Filter in mount, code word OMPIF. The catalog numbers were 35200 and 35205, respectively. The difference between the two was that the four color accessory added a yellow filter to the usual tri-color array of red, green and blue filters. The four color accessory could be used for either the three color or four color process.
The Leitz OMAG filters were used to make 35mm color separation exposures with Leica cameras.
The accessory has a slip fit over the lens barrel that is clamped on by turning a small screw. Photographs are taken on successive frames through the red, green and blue filters and optionally, through the yellow filter as well. The OMAG filter holder has a 36mm opening that fits the 50mm f/3.5 Elmar lens. Although the holder would fit any Leitz lens that accepts slip on A36 accessories, the catalog description specifically mentioned the Elmar lens.
The OMAG filter attachments appeared in a 1930 Leitz NY catalog and ca. 1931 Leitz NY pamphlet. An auction description on the Web mentions that the OMAG also appeared in a 1928 catalog.
